Part of the Quantitative Methods in the Humanities and Social Sciences book series (QMHSS)

In this chapter, a basic introduction to working with objects in R is given. We provide the minimal working knowledge to work through the remainder of Part I. Basic computations on vectors, matrices, and data frames are shown. Particular attention is given to R’s subsetting mechanism as it is often a source of confusion for new users.
