Abstract
There are multiple ways to achieve a proper occlusion in a partially edentulous patient. It is important to know that every patient has individual functional and aesthetical needs and expectations. The clinician has to decide first if the existing natural or artificial occlusion of the patient is acceptable or if there is anything to change in the intercuspal position and/or occlusal vertical dimension. In cases that require a reestablishment of the existing occlusion, a functional pretreatment is generally necessary.
