Abstract
It is not surprising that a number of trainers met in companies ask themselves recurring questions about what they have to do, if they do it well, if they could do it better… Testimonials in following chapters will provide elements for reflection and will try to provide answers. This chapter proposes to bring to light some conceptual aspects related. We hope to demonstrate that theoretical inputs will help to better understand the term “practice” and help “to practice better”.

Notes
- 1.
In the common language, we could say “the tool”. To be more precise, in the frame of activities with instrument defined by Rabardel (1995), an artifact (physical or symbolic) is elaborated through the human activity or transformed by it and is possibly used, that is being a part of a finalized activity.
- 2.
- 3.
See also Falzon and Teiger (1995) interested in the ergonomist’ role to guide reflexive activities and to favor awareness.
- 4.
Nevertheless it remains difficult to elaborate a standpoint regarding “acceptable conditions” for the subjects and for their health. In this chapter, we shall only consider that, in risky situations for oneself, the others or the environment which we deal with in the present work, it is necessary for the subjects to monitor the situation enough to stabilize it and avoid the accident. Therefore “acceptable conditions” means that the subjects are able to act efficiently in the situation.
- 5.
This example also reminds to which extent the characteristics of the artifact “simulator” as well as their use by the subjects must be carefully analyzed.
- 6.
Depending on the topic, explanations may be useless sometimes; for example, trainers for surgeons and anesthetists are specialized physicians, often experienced professionals or professors, facing a population of residents.
