Bridging the Centuries: Astronomical Discoveries Between the Eras of Shakespeare and of Tennyson and Hopkins

  • David H. Levy
Part of the Astrophysics and Space Science Library book series (ASSL, volume 419)

This new edition includes the earlier work I did for my master’s degree. That work involved Hopkins, who lived more than two centuries after Shakespeare, the primary subject of my Ph.D. For this book to succeed, I needed two chapters to bridge the time between the early modern and Victorian periods. This one examines how different astronomers read the sky, like Galileo and Milton, Huygens, Messier, and Herschel.
