Robotic Surgery in Breast Reconstruction: Harvest of the Latissimus Dorsi Muscle Flap

  • Chapter
Breast Reconstruction

Abstract

Robotic surgery has advanced the pace of innovation in surgery. Robotic breast reconstruction is highlighted. The clinical application with advantages of the robotic approach, indications for the robotic approach and the surgical technique of robotic harvest of the latissimus dorsi flap for breast reconstruction are discussed. Robotic harvest of the muscle-only LD flap for breast reconstruction offers the ability to reliably harvest the entire muscle without the addition of any incisions beyond those required for the oncologic portion of the surgery. This eliminates incisional morbidity and enhances the esthetics of breast reconstruction.
