Abstract

Implementation of the contact force models described in the previous chapter into particle system simulation codes involve complex algorithms and require load reversal points to be stored in memory. Consequently, many researchers elect to use simpler contact force models in order to reduce computer time requirements. A selection of the most common simpler contact force models are described in this chapter, including linear springs and non-linear springs, with and without dashpots, partially latching springs and adhesive piecewise linear models.
