Ocular Manifestations of Pediatric Renal Diseases

The Eye in Pediatric Systemic Disease

Abstract

Given the temporal proximity between renal and ocular organogenesis and increasing information on the genetic basis of oculorenal syndromes, it is no surprise that the eye and kidney have a distinct set of shared pathologies. However, in addition to these particular disease entities, the kidneys play a significant role in overall homeostasis and biochemical regulation, which can further impact the health of the eyes. This chapter will look at seven situations in which the health of the kidneys and eyes are closely tied.
