Acromioclavicular dislocations are a common occurrence in football players.

Treatment decisions, based on the Rockwood classification, are widely shared as regards lower grades (conservative treatment) and higer grades of dislocation (surgical treatment), whereas the treatment of grade III dislocations remains controversial.

The management of acromioclavicular dislocations in football players requires careful evaluation that takes into account not only the Rockwood classification but also the period of the season and the playing position of the athlete.
