Abstract
Cleft lip with and without cleft palate and cleft palate in isolation are the most common congenital deformities of the head and neck. In addition to the defects seen of the lip and palate, secondary problems and deformities (e.g., cleft lip nasal deformity, velopharyngeal dysfunction) can result from the underlying anatomical abnormalities seen in this setting. Herein techniques of repairing primary and secondary problems associated with cleft lip and palate are discussed. Additional discussion of the embryology, etiology, and classification of cleft deformities is contained within this text.
