Nuclear power has unresolved challenges in the long-term management of radioactive wastes. A critical factor for the future of an expanded nuclear power industry is the choice of the fuel cycle – what type of fuel is used, what types of reactors “burn” the fuel, and the method of disposal of spent fuel.
