Odontogenic Tumors: Mesenchymal

Abstract

Odontogenic tumors encompass a group of lesions that share a common origin from odontogenic tissues. They may arise from the epithelial part of the tooth germ, the mesenchymal part or from both. In this Chapter, only those exclusively composed of odontogenic mesenchyme will be dealt with, separate Chapters being devoted to the epithelial and mixed types. Their behavior varies from frankly invasive to rather indolent. Histological features are described with emphasis on differential diagnosis as distinction between different entities may depend on the recognition of subtle histologic details. Discussed entities are odontogenic myxoma, odontogenic fibroma and cementoblastoma.
