Abstract

The existing literature on the influence of various surface coatings of nanoparticles in dictating bactericidal toxicity will be outlined. Various surface stabilizing agents on the toxicity of nanoparticles will be discussed. How engineered nanoparticles are incorporated in various surface coatings (chemical or biological) during their synthesis, along with details on the various physical characterization techniques including zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), will be described. Finally, comparative studies on the effects of various surface-coated nanoparticles on the toxicity of bacteria will be discussed.
