Abstract

This chapter deals with various aspects of PET, PET/CT, and PET/MR scanning systems. Different detector materials and their characteristics are discussed in detail. Arrangement of detectors in block detector form in PET scanners for coincidence counting is described. Coincidence timing window is briefly explained. The basic design and operation of a PET scanner is provided. The operational principle of CT in PET/CT and of MR in PET/MR is given along with those of PET/CT and PET/MR in the chapter. The specifications of a few commercial scanners are provided in tables. Also included in the description are three small-animal scanners and their specifications along with mobile PET/CT scanners. The principle of mobile PET/CT is outlined.
