Abstract
It is rare that an anesthesiologist on call in the operating room is required to anesthetize the same patient repeatedly during an overnight shift. In this narrative, an anesthesiologist describes her thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations as she accompanies a patient through a mortal struggle to preserve her fertility. In exchange for her care, the doctor is blessed to meet an extraordinary woman whose joyful approach to life leaves the doctor with an enhanced sense of connection to her surroundings.
