Abstract
This chapter examines knowledge flows in MNEs and reviews relevant literature from the last decade to analyse how the field has developed. It specifically focuses on two key constructs from the international business literature—namely knowledge transfer and absorptive capacity—and links them to the HRM literature. It shows that HRM practices aligned with organisational goals related to knowledge assimilation and sharing are important organisational means enabling MNEs to shape employees’ abilities, motivation and opportunities and to create a culture of knowledge sharing among their organisational members.
