Abstract

To avoid repetitions, in this chapter the reader will find the basic anatomic differences between the surgical technique employed to repair rectourethral bulbar fistulas and cases where the fistula is connected in the upper portion of the posterior urethra, called prostatic urethra. Most complications during the repair of an anorectal malformation in male patients occur in the process of finding the rectum and separating the rectum from the urinary tract, particularly in this specific type of defect, and that is why the authors make a special effort in describing the maneuvers that will help the surgeon to avoid those complications. The chapter is also illustrated with detailed artistic renditions, illustrations, and intraoperative pictures.
