Abstract
This work presents a neuro-muscular stimulator (NMS) specially designed for autonomous neuroprosthesis, and focused on the optimization of the battery energy consumption. The main feature of the proposed NMS is that it does not use an auxiliary high voltage supply to produce bipolar current pulses, as is commonly used in classical NMSs. The NMS herein proposed, generates the bipolar current pulses directly from the low voltage battery, by using a dc/dc converter with high voltage gain and current programmed control.
