Abstract
Since its invention in the beginning of the twentieth century, mass spectrometry has been improved, becoming a powerful tool in many researches. Mass spectrometry plays for example an important role in biology related research. While, at the beginning mass spectrometry was essentially used to identify naturally occurring isotopes, over the years the evolution of mass spectrometry and more specifically the instruments, led to a large panel of mass spectrometers with different properties. This gave access to the measurement of more compounds and more complex elements. Mass spectrometry has also been improved in terms of accuracy, resolution and sensitivity. As a result, measuring biological compounds has become easier and more precise. Then, the technical evolution and the interest for mass spectrometry increase simultaneously.
