Abstract

Many performers are expert in more than one genre. For the free-lance dancer it is likely to be advantageous at audition to perform in many different dance styles. Instrumentalists may also be versatile in more than one instrument. Musical Conservatoires invariably require a “second instrument” to be specified when auditioning for a “first instrument”. This facility may also be of use in a saturated job market or for teaching purposes. Some conservatoires offer mixed courses combining dance with music with theatre. In addition many performing artists, especially dancers, maintain an interest in sport, particularly tariff sports such as gymnastics, cheerleading and diving.
