Anterior Skull Base Approaches to the Posterior Fossa

  • Chapter
Posterior Fossa Tumors in Children

Abstract

In rare instances a surgical approach to anterior boundary of the posterior fossa via the transoral route may be indicated. The transoral route has been well documented as a means of dealing with compressive pathologies at the clivus and cranioverteral junction in adults; however, the use of this approach in children has been less widely studied. Lesions that may have to be dealt with via this technique include congenital abnormalities, infectious and inflammatory lesions, as well as tumors.
