Abstract

The Generalized Upper Model (GUM) is a framework used to map semantic concepts under natural languages structures. GUM has been successfully tested for expressions of spatial concepts, i.e. spatial language, in English and German. This paper describes an application of GUM for Brazilian Portuguese, highlighting the following findings specific for that language: GUM provided plausible semantic mappings for almost all the corpus, which also revealed spatial language in Brazilian Portuguese to be highly underspecified.
