Abstract

This chapter analyzes the progress in ICT in the SEMC and how it compares to the rest of the world in terms of the sector’s sophistication and development. In recent years, most SEMC opened up their markets for multiple players, which has greatly enhanced competition and increased the number and quality of services. However, compared with the rest of the world, the region still lags behind. Yet this could change fairly rapidly as more countries adopt liberalization policies and good governance that would attract FDI and expand the markets.
