Abstract

Organized and established in 1949, the National Basketball Association (NBA) consisted of teams from the former Basketball Association of America (BAA) and National Basketball League (NBL). Several of the 17 NBA teams had home sites in cities of metropolitan areas with small to very small populations while others played their home games in arenas within midsized and large markets.
