Abstract

Though life-threatening complications may occur during endoscopic procedures, the endoscopy-related mortality and permanent morbidity are usually low in large series. Late complications are mainly represented by the occlusion of the stoma. Its occurrence seems to depend not only by the quality of the stoma but also by the underlyng cause of the hydrocephalus. Because of the potential risks associated to a late failure, patients should be followed as carefully as patients with a CSF shunt device, even if an hardware is not implanted. Follow-up MRI imaging is essential to assess the late efficacy of the procedure.
