Abstract

Recent advancements in controlled radical polymerization techniques have led to the facile synthesis of the well-defined silicon-based thermoreversible block copolymers. Because of their inorganic–organic structure and the flexibility of the silicone bonds, silicones have some unique properties including thermal oxidative stability, low temperature flow ability, high compressibility, low surface tension, hydrophobicity, good electric properties and low fire hazard. Well-defined silicon-based block copolymers were synthesized via ATRP of St, MMA, MA, BDMP or VAc monomers at 60 °C using CuCl/PMDETA as a catalyst system initiated from Br-PDMS-Br. Also new polyrotaxanes were synthesized based on new copolymers via inclusion complex of γ-cyclodextrin and block copolymers.
