Abstract
We report that picosecond acoustic pulses generated by femtosecond laser pulses can induce a change of the magnetization in ferromagnetic nickel films. We show that this effect can be used to manipulate the amplitude of the magnetization precession via a change in the magnetic anisotropy. The conditions for realizing magneto-acoustic devices will be discussed.
