Abstract

Filling a cylindrical liner z-pinch with a high Z gas before applying the current pulse was found to dramatically change the dynamics occurring inside. This chapter describes such experiments in the case where the liner wall was thin with respect to the current skin depth. These experiments were carried out with a view to using the converging ablation flow from a thin liner as a driver for shock physics experiments.
