Abstract

Neonatal intestinal obstruction is one of the common pediatric emergencies. The diagnosis and general treatment of common causes of small and large bowel obstruction in a neonate are discussed here. Individual conditions will be discussed separately. In most cases of neonatal intestinal obstruction, the diagnosis is obvious after the plain abdominal x-ray and further contrast studies may not be necessary but in certain cases it is performed to arrive at a diagnosis or to exclude certain conditions.
