Semantic Acquisition Games

Abstract

We follow up with our semantics acquisition game (SAG) design classification, presented in previous chapter. In this chapter, we focus on our own contributions to this design space—new “design patterns”. We demonstrate them on our semantics acquisition games: the Little Search Game, PexAce and CityLights. The contributions include novel “helper artifact” validation scheme helping to overcome cold-start problems of SAGs, anti-cheating measures usable in SAGs, concept of a “validation SAG” (used for validation of existing artifacts rather than creation of new ones) and approaches for measuring player competences in SAGs (and applying them to improve game outcomes).
