Abstract
Cardiomyopathies (CMP) represent an important field for clinical cardiologist because they are not extremely rare in the general population and present some important and difficult issues. They often affect young people with potential long perspective of life. CMP are frequently familial, imposing the need of a systematic familial screening in the relatives and implying the complexity of some choices such as pregnancy. Finally, within the set of CMP are also present some of the most complex, rare and least known cardiac diseases. The international societies of cardiology have proposed some classifications and definitions of CMP in order to better deal and manage with these diseases.
