Abstract

In an evidence-based fashion the Yale Swallow Protocol has been shown to be a reliable, validated, and generalizable swallow screen. When administered and interpreted by a trained specialist the protocol may be adopted as a standard clinical assessment tool for both determination of potential aspiration risk and to make recommendations for initiating specific oral diets without the need for further instrumental dysphagia testing.
