Abstract
Understanding the role of research evidence in educational improvement is of critical importance as we continue to try to reduce the inequities in our educational system. Contained within this volume are groundbreaking studies put forth by leading scholars who push the thinking in the field, as well as discuss many cross cutting themes relating to the value and use of research evidence. The important meta-themes are presented in this chapter through a careful review and synthesis of these contributions. Several key themes arise including the need for adopting a systems perspective on the work, recognizing the role of both the quantity and quality of relationships as well as need to rethink, realign, and retool the relationship between research producers and users. The findings from this volume should serve to stimulate dialogue at all levels of the system around the use of research evidence, as well as push research, policy, and practice toward more collaborative coproduction of knowledge.
