Abstract

Robotic arms are highly multifunctional machines. A large part of the versatility is due to gripping technology, as grippers enable the robot not only to pick-and-place objects, but also to handle a wide variety of tools, and to manipulate material, e.g. via polishing and grinding. New developments by Schunk further increase the potential of grippers, via customized, 3D-printed gripper fingers, highly sensitive force-moment sensors, and completely new gripping tools, equipped with tactile sensors and their own intelligence.
