Noninvasive Mechanical Ventilation in Postoperative Spinal Surgery

Abstract

Noninvasive mechanical ventilation is widely used in postoperative acute respiratory failure. Because it is a noninvasive method, it prevents complications caused by intubation and invasive mechanical ventilation and, therefore, morbidity and mortality decrease. Spinal surgery, particularly surgery for scoliosis, is associated with postoperative pulmonary complications and acute respiratory failure. Therefore, noninvasive mechanical ventilation is recommended for their prevention and treatment.
