Abstract

This first section (A.145–151) treats the addition of fractional expressions: first, fraction to fraction (A.145–146); secondly, compound fraction to fraction (A.147) and to compound fraction (A.148); thirdly, fraction of a fraction to fraction of a fraction (A.149) and to compound fraction (A.150); it ends with the addition of several (different) fractions (A.151). Thus only fraction to fraction of a fraction is left out or, rather, does not receive a separate treatment. As for the case of fractional expressions containing integers, there is no need to consider it; for, as an early reader observed at the end of this section, these integers will just be added separately, then the result to those resulting from adding the fractions.
