Typically, two types of engineers are involved in systems engineering projects: the disciplinary specialist with a deep knowledge in a specific field, and the systems engineer as a generalist, who has to coordinate the different specialists to come to a system design. The necessary broad overview of the involved domains as well as a certain level of detail requires experience. Since novice engineers usually do not have this experience, they have to develop it during their professional life.
