Abstract

If we had thought at the beginning that near-death experiences would turn out to be clearly defined, well marked out, and easy to assess, comprising some specific set of experiences, we should now be struck with a profound disappointment as a result of all the above discussions. On the other hand, there is no reason to be upset by this! The very diversity of the human psyche and the overlap of neurological and psychiatric sciences with philosophy and religion make near-death experiences such a fascinating theme. The evolution of each new aspect leads to new insights and discussion points! This makes it difficult to bring together all the different aspects in a short summary. However, some points and questions crystallise out.
