Abstract

The goal of a preoperative template is to visualize the obstacles detected during the radiographic analysis and to determine the key references that will be useful during surgery.

If endofemoral approach. (1) Draw the outlines of the femur and position the axes (centro-medullary and center of rotation) (2) Choose the implant and visualize the obstacles (position the tip of the greater trochanter in relation to the lateral cortex) (3) Determine the key references (depth of penetration)

If femoral flap. (1) Draw the outlines of the femur and position the axes (centro-medullary and center of rotation) (2) Determine the length of the flap to access a straight and well corticalized segment of the femur. (3) Selection of the implant and determine the level of the medial osteotomy if the femur is curved (4) Determine the references: length of the implant, length of the flap, degree of penetration and height of medial corticotomy
