Resettlement of Displaced Persons on the Thai-Myanmar Border

Abstract

The motivations and constraints for participating in resettlement are analysed, assessing differences based upon demographics, as well as both policy and personal respects. Key push and pull factors that influence the decision-making process for individual refugees are examined. The impact of resettlement is evaluated, both for participants and those left behind in the camps. The policies and procedures of the actors involved in the resettlement programme are assessed, together with the preparatory programmes available to assist refugees with the challenges they face in third countries.
