Abstract

Two flexor tendons run along the volar aspect of each digit: the flexor digitorum profundus, which inserts into the distal phalanx, and the flexor digitorum superficialis, whose two expansions insert into the base of the middle phalanx. The extensor tendons run along the dorsal aspects of the digits. Distally, each divides to form three laminae, which insert into the base of the middle phalanx (the middle lamina) and the base of the distal phalanx (the two lateral laminae).
