Abstract
This chapter introduces the reader to different types of light sources used in photodissociation experiments. The basic theory and operation of these light sources will be briefly discussed, emphasizing their relative merits and disadvantages in terms of ion photodissociation. For a more thorough review on the fundamentals and detailed design of these light sources, the reader is referred to expert literature.
