Abstract
The introduction of an automation system in a clinical laboratory represents an innovative issue as for IVD technology is concerned. It requires changes in internal organization, review of workflows and design of laboratory reengineering. The final aim is to improve services and outcomes for patients.
In San Matteo Hospital, Clinical Engineering Department (CED) has an important coordination role in laboratory technology-related issues. Through the application of Hospital Based - Health Technology Assessment (HB-HTA) methodology, CED can support high-level management decisions, for rationalizing processes and evaluating technological solutions. Moreover, for the peculiar reality of Clinical Chemistry Laboratory we apply also Lean principles and tools in order to translate clinical needs into technical data.
