Abstract

The study was performed in the Serra do Japi (approximately 23°11’S, 46°52’W; 700–1300 m a.s.l.). The study area is located in the state of São Paulo (Brazil) and comprises four municipalities: Jundiaí, Cajamar, Cabreūva and Pirapora do Bom Jesus. The region was investigated during the course of seven years, from January 1998 to June 2005, in order to collect orchid species (with flowers, if possible) and obtain information about their flowering period, habitat, habit and morphological characteristics, data that has been used in the preparation of descriptions. Observations about pollinators and the forms of reproduction of each species were performed under natural conditions whenever possible.
