Abstract

Platycodon grandiflorum (Jacq.) A. DC., a herbaceous perennial plant known as Balloonflower, is the only species of the Bellflower Family. It distributed in most provinces of China, Korean, Japan, the Russian Far East and Siberia (Hong et al. Flora Republicae Popularis Sinicae, Beijing, 1983). It is the legal source recorded in the Pharmacoepia of People’s Republic of China (Pharmacopoeia Committee of P. R. China. Pharmacopoeia of the People’s Republic of China. China Medical Science Press, Beijing, 2010) and all historical records of Chinese herbal works.
