Abstract
As shown in Chap. 2, charge air cooling plays a decisive role in the design of supercharged engines with high power density, low fuel consumption, and low emissions. Therefore, special attention has to be paid to the layout of charge air cooling systems and their components for specific engine concepts and applications. For this purpose, knowledge about different cooler designs and suitable charge air cooling systems is as important as knowledge about their respective characteristics.
