Abstract

The Galois family had embraced revolutionary ideals from the very beginning of the revolution in 1789. They lived in Bourg-la-Reine, in the department of Hauts-de-Seine, 4 km south of the Porte d’Orléans on the outskirts of Paris. Their village had grown out of a subsidiary establishment of the Abbey of Montmartre, founded by Louis VI’s queen, Adelaide Of Savoy, in the 12th century.
