Abstract

Reasoning is for the most part carried on by the aid of signs. It has been contended by some writers that it can only be conducted by this agency; others maintain that the use of signs is not indispensable and this is the more probable opinion. But it is universally agreed that the use of signs is a most important aid and that without them no extended process or reasoning could be conducted
