Advanced Stage Thyroid Cancer — Treatment with Isotretinoin

  • Conference paper
Book cover Radioactive Isotopes in Clinical Medicine and Research XXIII

Abstract

Isotretinoin has been successfully applied in a variety of malignant tumours displaying growth inhibiting and differentiation enhancing effects. As cell culture studies have proposed positive responses to Isotretinoin in differentiated thyroid cancer we applied the vitamin A derivative to 15 patients with advanced metastatic thyroid cancer. 14 patients showed at least a partial response in Tg, FDG PET or radioiodine measurements. In conclusion, Isotretinoin is useful in advanced thyroid cancer.
