Abstract
Universities are knowledge-production systems of increasing importance, but their potential for solving societal problems has not been mobilized. Transdisciplinarity is a new way to organize work within universities, informed by concepts of “intellectual capital” and “reflexivity.” Transdisciplinarity holds promise for overcoming current deficits of human, structural-organizational, customer, and stakeholder capital, because it integrates different disciplinary, institutional, and community resources.
