Summary

A single projection procedure with high overrelaxation for iterative reconstruction of PET images is described which is precise and rapid, and therefore suitable for practical use. The best values of overrelaxation are determined with typical data. An image needs bewtween three and eight iterative steps, depending on the requested precision. Results with phantoms and patients are shown and compared with maximum-likelihood EM.
